D’banj

Since the Koko Master made his debut into the industry, he’s never failed to dazzle his fans with irresistible songs. All from the stable of Mo’Hit records, his ‘boss’, Don Jazzy keeps imprinting magical beats and rhythm to make D’banj one of Nigeria’s best artistes.

This year has been an event-filled one for the dude, as he’s been seen jetting out of the country on several occasion. Financially, it has also been a rewarding one for him, as he also signed deals worth millions of dollars. And just October this year, he unleashed an Aston Martin Vantage car with only two doors.

This year, he also struck a record deal with one of Ameriac’s top rated artistes cum producer, Kayne West. But before then, he released a single, Mr. Endowed, with award winning American singer, Snoop Dog.

He still continues to make wave as an artiste who has proven his worth.

Tiwa Savage

As if coming from the blues, Tiwa made a debut into the industry just last year. Her first single, Kele Kele Love made a huge hit, shooting her straight into the league of A-list artistes in the country. After her first singles, she’s performed at countless concerts in and outside the country.

She’s also earned herself some cool cash and is one of the most rated female acts in the country at the moment. Her second single, Love Me Love Me is also a sensational track which has continued to make wave. In the course of the year, she got nominated for the Grammy Award in the best R&B album category. And just this month, she just dropped another smoky one, Without My Heart, featuring Don Jazzy himself. Wow! She’s still smoky hot and sure ready to take us by storm next year?

Wiz Kid

He was faced with too many controversies through the year, ranging from impregnating an undergraduate, to allegedly stealing the Pakurumo song, to the internet naked picture scandal, the rumoured affair between him and sexy actress Tonto Dike and other ‘illicit’ affair-he’s sure got a bagful of scandals rocking his back.

But aside his scandalous stuffs, career-wise, he was one of those artistes that rocked the year. He performed at many shows and concerts like the FAB Night Out, Big Brother Amplified Finale and a host of others. Wizzy also made cameo appearances in other artistes, making him one of the artistes with numerous collabos in the year.

His singles that rocked this year include Wiz Party, Love My Baby, Pakurumo, Don’t Dull and others.

Omawunmi

She never ceases to dazzle with her strong vocal voice. Her debut single, In The Music, a song with the South African rhythm, shot her to limelight. Since then, she kept releasing songs after songs.

This year, her song, If You Ask Me became an instant hit-a song people thought stemmed out of her personal experience. But she proved pundits wrong, saying it was an experience of a young barrack girl!

P-Square

The two brothers of P-Square, Peter and Paul have become a house hold name in Nigeria and beyond. Aside their music prowess, their choreography is also another part where fans get hooked. Their eclectic performances makes them a force to be reckoned with in the country.

Not counting their success in the industry over the years, this year too was one of immeasurable success for them. Their singles Chop My Money, Bu Nie Ya Enu and Forever added to their many successes.

M.I

M.I, one of the Chocolate City boys is definitely an act to be reckoned with. When it comes to rap music, he ranks as the No.1 in the country. He picks his words one after the other, sending the songs straight to bed.
Number One, Beef, Action Film, One Naira, Epic and others were some of his singles that made wave in the year.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Opa Williams Bids Farewell to Night of A Thousand Laughs

After 16 years dedicated to building the premier comedy show, Nite of A Thousand Laughs, comedy merchant and the man reputed to be the founding father of modern day stand up comedy in Nigeria, Opa Williams, is taking a bow.

This shocking news was contained in a statement signed by his media company, Media Image Managers, MIM. Williams, a movie producer and director, is resting Nite Of A Thousand Laughs. Consequently, the pan Nigeria show will have its last editions on December 26 in Benin and January 1 in Port Harcourt.

An emotional Williams said in his office that the decision to stop the show that has brought him fame and fortune as well as served as a launch pad to all popular stand up comedians like Julius Agwu, Basket Mouth and I Go Dye among many others, was “a hard one.”

And why would Opa Williams take such a hard decision after 16 successful years of taking the show to Europe and across Africa? “When we started Nite of A Thousand Laughs in 1995, we were the only comedy show, we were the real, and Nigerians witnessed something fresh and unique.

“Jokes were original and audience members actually laughed a ‘thousand’ times. Consequently, the show produced superstar stand comedians who got their first break on the stage of Nite Of A Thousand Laughs. These comedians went ahead to start their own shows.”

These shows became a recreation of Nite Of A Thousand Laughs. It turned out to be a ‘see one, see all shows’ situation. “The fallout is that the audience members paid dearly for this as they are short changed without knowing it.

As a pioneer, in fact the arrow head of the comedy revolution in Nigeria, I decided I won’t be part of this audience short changing scheme anymore, so Nite of A Thousand Laughs is stepping aside, to retain its dignity,” an emotion laden Williams said.

He brushed aside the insinuation that competition is forcing him out of the game he founded.

The last might not have been heard from Sam Klef, For those of you waiting to see what the Noni crooner Samuel Oguachuba aka Sam Klef is up to the next time he hits the Nigerian entertainment scene with another album, there is a big surprise hot in the making.

Sources tell us that Sam Klef is already in serious talk with American R&B artist, rapper and producer Timothy Zachery Mosley aka Timberland and that together, they plan to do a colabo that will raise the roof and silence both their critics forever.

Since it’s a partnership that is still in it’s early stages, our source says Sam Klef has held sealed lips on the title and entire concept of the song.

Come January 13th, he will be flying to South Africa to shoot the videos of his hit tracks Paradise and Suwe. Then he will be taking the long flight to Miami in the state of Florida, US to shoot the video of his track All the way.

Sam Klef is the music producer behind some of the biggest names in the music  industry like Sunny Neji, Ruggedman, Durella, Vector, D’Prince, Skales, and Wizkid.

He shot to fame and stardom early in the year when he released his debut single Molowo Noni which featured  Ice Prince, Whiz kid and D’ Prince.

Durella’s My Life was produced by him and Whiz Kid’s Tease Me which had been recorded during a freestyle session had been mixed and mastered by Sam Klef in exactly 30minutes.

In October this year, it was rumoured that he had dumped bachelorhood for good; a rumour that got no comment from him.

(CNN) — Nigeria’s music industry is flourishing. However, it faces a big threat — the scourge of piracy.
But the tide is changing, say the country’s top music stars, who are stepping up efforts to reform the industry and are putting pressure on the government to crack down on pirates.
One of Nigeria’s most celebrated artists is among those calling for action to stamp out the problem.
“Piracy is still a very massive issue because there is no control in terms of producing the CDs and no barcodes. You don’t even know where it is coming from,” said hip-hop and RnB star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face.
Idibia is no stranger to the international scene and his music has won him a string of awards both at home and abroad.
But while he has been recognized for his work he feels that back home there is a lack of respect for artists and that the police do not view piracy as a serious crime.
“A policeman might be standing here, someone might be selling pirated copies over there and he wouldn’t even look at it as though someone is committing a crime and he might even buy one!” he said.
“They love the music, they want to listen to it, they dance to it, they buy the pirated copies, but the respect for the actual intellectual property is not there,” he continued.
Only a decade ago, there were only one or two compact disc production plants. Today there are 28 in operation and the country has its own copyright commission, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC).
According to the latest Strategic Action Against Piracy report released in 2011 from the NCC, piracy of CDs, VCDs, DVDs cost just over $3.5 million a year.
Idibia is no stranger to the international scene and his music has won him a string of awards both at home and abroad.
But while he has been recognized for his work he feels that back home there is a lack of respect for artists and that the police do not view piracy as a serious crime.

Last year the industry decided to close ranks and establish the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) to give advice to artists about copyright and licensing their music.
The collective also promotes the rights of artists and acts as an industry watchdog.
The NCC and COSON are backing Storm 360 to release an anti-piracy song early next year as part of a wider national campaign.
Asika hopes that artists like 2Face will get involved to help educate music fans about the problem of piracy.
“Education, communication, campaign — if you do not educate people you cannot expect them to know there is a real problem,” he said.
Idibia says the issue of piracy is even more aggravating considering the difficulties Nigerian artists face in getting their music to market. He compares the emergence of artists in Africa to “rose flowers growing from rocks.”
But he says the good thing about the African music scene is artists are not afraid to speak up for what they believe in, which could help improve their rights.
“The trend is we get ourselves involved in everything that affects our lives and we speak out. We talk about it,” he said.

NEWS: Nigerian Man Shot Dead by Malaysian Police in Drug Related Incident

In Malaysia, a Nigerian man was arrested on suspicion of being a drug mule. The man was reported to have been tied down to a bed in the hospital as the police waited for him to excrete the drug capsules out.
According to news from Malaysia, the man somehow managed to free himself from being tied down (even though he was supposedly being monitored by a policeman) and was about to lunge at the policeman when he (the policeman) fired three shots in self-defense, instantly killing him.
It is gathered that the incident occurred at 9.45pm yesterday at Ward 18 in Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
We still find it very suspicious that a man tied to a bed – which is inappropriate – and was being monitored by a policeman was able to free himself and lunge at the policeman.
We hope that the Nigerian Government would take up this case, because they can’t watch arms folded as Nigerian citizens are being murdered in other countries like Malaysia and the like.
